Some time ago we learned about an exciting new project by Yeray Lopez Portillo.
A documentary film about the glory and the misfortunes of the Spanish galgo.
Yeray has been filming and documenting for over 3 years and managed to get all the ins and outs on what happens to these beautiful animals. After 3 years, he finally made the step to get the word out and take the last step needed to make this documentary a reality.
He started a Kickstarter campaing to finance the makin
Besides the galgos that we at times have available for adoption in the US, it is also possible to check out the galgos that are still with the shelters in Spain that SAGE works with.
We've added links to the pages that showcase the availble galgos of each shelter to our available dog page.
Please feel free to check them out and let us know if you would be interested in possibly adopting one of them. #FundacionBenjaminMehnert #SaveAGalgoEspanol #BaasGalgo #112Carlotagalgos #
You may have read it already, but 2016 started really well with a radio interview and a tv interview.
And that is not all, we're preparing for the fist 2016 galgos to come over.
A week from now I will on a plane towards Madrid for a short visit, returning with the first two galgos of this year.
We are expecting a special boy this time.
After a few months of healing, Tokyo will finally be ready for his forever home.
For those not knowing his story, here's a short recap.
As we are reaching the end of 2015, I would like to take a moment to say a heartfelt thank you to every one who supported, adopted, donated time, money and goods, helped by driving, sharing on social media and the emotional support we received this year.
You were one of them!
And you made a change, one way or another in the life of one of these special souls that came all the way from Spain to find a safe haven all the way in the US and in some cases, Canada.
Over the last four years, SAGE has become increasing active. In order to keep up with our progress, we have given our site a facelift and even added a blog! We have more updates coming, including our list of events for 2016. Stay tuned! #Adoption #SaveAGalgoEspanol #Galgo
I arrived at the Fundacion Benjamin Mehnert (FBM) shelter located near Dos Hermanas in Spain on 10/22/15. In less than 24 hours of my arrival, I was introduced to the galgo that you see below. He was abandoned on the roadside in extremely poor condition. His weight was only 14 kg (30.8 lbs). He was unable to stand on his own and had many open, deep wounds including a degloved right elbow. The staff gave him the name Kenzo. On Saturday, 10/24, Kenzo was located in the ho
During my visit to FBM, there were approximately 400-500 dogs at the facility. The majority of them are galgos. The following pics/descriptions are several lovely souls that I had the pleasure of helping out and hanging out with while I was there. This is Fantasia (pronounced Fan-ta-c-a). Despite her injury, she is such a sweetheart. Not sure how her left front leg ended up this way. She was brought into surgery on 10/30/15 to have a drain placed to help reduce the swellin
The day prior to my arrival at FBM, this beautiful galgo was injured in a horrible accident. The amazing staff received a call about this galgo being hit by a car and went to the accident site and brought her back to FBM. Amazingly, she did not have a single broken bone. They named her Shiva. Shiva was definitely shy and a bit tentative during the first few days while I was giving her medications and assisting with cleaning her wounds. It was decided on Friday, 10/30/15, t
